Albert Gulk (b. 1969) is known for his distinctive drawing style and works influenced by monumental art. He is also recognised by the local art audience as a member of the art group Kursi koolkond, founded in 1988.
Gulk’s imagination knows no bounds. The characters and scenes in his works often have a fantastical, almost sci-fi quality. When creating them, he does not rely on reference materials or models but draws solely on his own imagination.
He has drawn inspiration primarily from music, especially electronic music of the 1990s (such as Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, U96). His visual language is also shaped by his childhood in the cultural environment of Võrumaa. All these elements come together in the painting “Memory of a Red Ant.”
