Imat Suumann (b. 1964) primarily paints his hometown of Tartu, although the spaces he depicts often appear anonymous and timeless. It has been said of Suumann that he paints silence and emptiness – moments that can be sensed in the deep hours of the night or early in the morning, when the entire city is still asleep.
