Robin Nõgisto (b. 1992) is a painter and video artist whose work is largely inspired by the world of dreams.
His painting “Do Punk” is a prime example of Nõgisto’s distinctive pop-psychedelic aesthetic, which, unsurprisingly, carries a strong dose of punk. The work was exhibited at his 2016 solo show “Pictures at an Exhibition” at Hobusepea Gallery – a title that in turn was inspired by composer Modest Mussorgsky’s 1874 piano suite of the same name.
Although Nõgisto’s colourful, kaleidoscopic compositions seem to swirl before your eyes and ring in your ears – much like the Beatles’ best late 1960s tracks – he does not conform to the rules of classicism. His work is rebellious and unhinged, inviting the viewer to question the boundaries between reality and the unreal, and to embrace the absurd.
